Completed the career of Surgeon at the Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, from 2005 to 2010.
He carried out an international rotation in the Plastic Surgery and Ophthalmology departments of the La Paz University Hospital, of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, in Spain.
Dr. Mario Riquelme completed his training in the specialty of Ophthalmology at the Barzilai University Hospital, of the University of the Negev in Ashkelon, Israel from 2013 to 2016. During this period, he served as lead researcher of glaucoma research projects, developed in the same hospital.
Similarly, he took on the role of acting director of the hospital’s glaucoma department at the end of his training.
Dr. Mario Riquelme was part of an international medical brigade of ophthalmological surgeries, carried out in conjunction with the University of Monterrey, in Monterrey NL in 2015.
He has been part of the following academic publications presented in international forums:
- New drug for lung cancer: Cause of the Argentine Flag Sign. Published in ASCRS Annual Meeting 2017.
- Safety and efficacy of mitomycin C CO2 laser assisted sclerectomy independently and combined with phacoemulsification. 1-year follow-up results. Presented at the World Glaucoma Association Meeting in Helsinki, 2017.
Likewise, Dr. Mario Riquelme was invited speaker at the Joint Congress of Ophthalmology in Buenos Aires to present the talk “CLASS Evolution in the treatment of glaucoma” in May of this year.
Currently, Dr. Mario Riquelme is the first ophthalmologist in Latin America with certifications in minimally invasive glaucoma surgical technologies, such as the XEN45 implant (soon to arrive in Mexico) and the CLASS technology (CO2 Laser Assisted Sclerectomy) developed in Israel.
